Buy a DuraTech Chimney System

Simpson DuraTech chimney systems (also called flue systems) offer the following benefits:

- Optimum draft: DuraTech chimney systems use ThermalTech blanket insulation. ThermalTech maintains scorching-high chimney interior temperatures, which allows heated air to escape easily and without excessive residue buildup. At the same time, the insulation keeps the exterior of your DuraTech chimney pipe cool, so it won’t damage (or put at risk) your home.

- Reduced fire risk: ThermalTech provides smooth, even insulation. That eliminates hot spots common with other, loose-fill type insulation, so there’s no shifting, settling, or voids. Smooth, even venting matters – hot spots are a serious fire hazard.

- Enhanced fire protection: In the unfortunate event of a creosote fire starts inside a chimney, DuraTech’s compressible blanket insulation expand outward and lengthwise. This expansion prevents heat from transferring to other things, such as your exterior walls, and prevents the loss of structural integrity.

- Ease of installation and repair: DuraTech uses easy twist-lock connections, swivel elbows to get around rafters and other obstacles, and comes in longer class A chimney pipe lengths and weighs half as much as our competitors. So you and your installer won’t run up the hours getting your DuraTech flue system set up and working.

- Warranty: DuraTech has one of strongest warranties available. Component fittings are covered for a lifetime. DuraTech chimney pipe lengths – 25 years. And after 25 years, there’s still a 50% coverage. Rain caps – five years.

Here are some key considerations before buying a DuraTech chimney system:

1. Decide if you want a stainless or galvanized outer pipe chimney walls. Both offer great performance. Call for details or ask your installer what’s best for you.

2. If your project calls for economy, consider using galvalume DuraTech chimney pipes – Galvalume is used in interiors, where it won’t be exposed to weather.

3. Determine size. DuraTech class A chimney pipe’s inner liner is 430-alloy stainless steel and comes in 5-inch, 6-inch, 7-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch interior diameters. Outer diameters are two inches larger.

Note: DuraTech flue systems are tested and listed to the UL 103HT standard for use with wood, oil, coal, and gas applications, and the UL 103 standard in 10 inch and 12 inch diameters.

DuraTech Components

Ceiling Supports All DuraTech ceiling supports have a built-in, twist-lock collar to accept other DuraTech pieces. All three support up to 60 ft of chimney. The round ceiling support is for flat ceilings. It is pictured with a trim collar that is sold separately. The cathedral ceiling support is 24 inches high and is suitable for both flat and cathedral ceilings. The 2 inch wide trim collar is included. The short cathedral ceiling support is like its taller brother, but is 11 inches high and works for both flat and slightly sloped ceilings. Its 2 inch trim collar is included.

To connect DVL to a DuraTech support, use a close clearance adaptor. To connect single-wall stovepipe use either a Snap-Lock adaptor or a Dura-Black 14 inch slip connector, wich allows a 2 inch to 12 inch slip fitting.

For through-the-wall installations, use a finishing collar, the appropriate chimney adaptor, a wall thimble, a tee, and a tee support. The wall thimble adjusts to wall thicknesses from 4 inches to 10 inches. The finishing collar twist-locks to the chimney and receives the appropriate chimney adaptor.

The roof support is used for a chimney that exits a roof without using a standard ceiling support. It supports up to 45 ft of chimney, with 20 ft of that allowed below the roofline. Use an appropriate chimney adaptor, a finishing collar, and a roof support trim collar.

The anchor plate supports DuraTech on a masonry or approved zero clearance fireplace. It has a twist-lock collar to receive DuraTech.

The tee support supports up to 60 ft of 5 inch – 8 inch chimney and adjusts 2 inches to 6 inches from the wall. The wall strap stabilizes the chimney on an exterior wall. It also adjusts 2 inches to 6 inches.

Install a firestop radiation shield where a chimney passes through a floor without a ceiling support. Use the attic insulation shield for installations that pass through attic insulation. It consists of two galvanized parts – a base and a collar.

DuraTech flashings are aluminum, which doesn’t rust or corrode like galvanized flashings. Each flashing requires a storm collar, which is purchased separately.

The extended roof bracket stabilizes the pipe above the roof. Use it when chimney penetration exceeds 5 ft.
